This must be the headline everyone is going with, right? Well, the latest victim of the latest craze is soon to arrive. Yes, like all things we are getting another re-boot, re-write, re-do, or whatever you want to call it. TheGodfather Part III is being released under a new title, The Godfather – Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone.
Don’t get me wrong it must have been hard for Francis Ford Coppola to follow up two of the greatest movies of all time, Godfather and Godfather II. Heck the fact that he was able to do it twice is a feat unto itself. When the original third installment came out there was much anticipation followed by much disappointment. It unfortunately, did not perform to the bar set by its predecessors. The acting by the star-studded cast was incredible, and it was well shot but the story was not what we were all expecting.
Timed for the 30th Anniversary of the films original release we will be getting a second try. This never-before-seen version features a new beginning, ending, restored footage and sound, and rearranged scenes, shots, and music cues. “The picture has been given new life,” declares the Oscar-winning filmmaker.
Apparently, this is how the original was “intended” to be. So, in a world where it’s taken this long to try to forget the original conclusion of Part III, we are reminded once again, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” Let’s just hope they got it right this time.
The film will be release in theaters on December 4th and in Digital and Blue-Ray on December 8th .
