Peloton: Heed this Seat Position Warning, Your Knees will Thank You!

Do not underestimate the importance of seat position. When I received my bike over a year ago, I did not take seat position too seriously. I also didn’t think that I would be using my Peloton as much as I do either. I have now logged over 200 rides with no plans of stopping. However, if your reading this you probably have had a similar situation to mine.

About four months ago I started having a dull pain on the top of my left knee. At this point in my Peloton journey, I got totally hooked and had been really pushing myself and riding everyday. I was really going for those “PR’s.” I attributed the discomfort to exerting myself too much and causing some type of injury. I gave the bike a break for a couple of days and the pain subsided. Thinking it had passed, I tried to do a 20 minute ride. Unfortunately, I did not make it half way through and the pain came back.

I started going on the forums and asked if anyone else had experienced this. I couldn’t understand why it happened? I thought cycling was easy on the knees compared to running. After doing some research, most people who have experienced what I described, pointed to seat position. I could not believe the answer could be that simple. But, desperate to ride again pain free, I watched this video.

After actually paying attention to it this time, I realized my seat was way too low. I adjusted accordingly and gave it a shot. Well, just like that, no pain. Thankfully, for me it really was that simple. I have continued on my rides and the pain has not returned.

Please pay attention to the importance of seat position. If you are experiencing a similar type of feeling in your knees, it’s worth a shot. Now, I am not a doctor, so if you are experiencing severe pain or something that does not feel right, please consult one. I merely want to express to you if you don’t follow the directions, you could end up hurting yourself. Enjoy your rides and see you on the leaderboard!
