By now, I am sure many of you have heard of the passing of the legendary Eddie Van Halen. His story is well known and to my generation he was the greatest guitar player to walk the face of the earth.
I am not ashamed to say, I was first introduced to Eddie Van Halen by Mary McFly trying to scare his dad into thinking he was from outer space. His guitar prowess was nothing like anything I had ever heard before. His sound became instantly recognizable and eventually often imitated. Although, no one could ever quite replicate that sound. But, he spawned an entire MTV generation into believing they could learn to play like him. He truly was a rock god. However, this is not about all that, this is about his son.
Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of Eddie, plays tribute to his dad with the debut of his first single. A musician in his own right and well taught by his family of talented music makers. This debut single, “Distances” not only pulls at every imaginable heartstring, but is an awesome song. By the end of the video you will not only have shed many tears, but you will understand what else Eddie has left us. Thank you Wolfie for being there for the legions of EVH fans. We will continue to comfort you as you carry on that torch. The torch lit by the sparks of fingers on guitar strings. On behalf of my generation, I would like to say thank you.
